Andy& Josh 23/04/10 Why did the British settle in Australia Where did the British transport it’s their convicts before 1775? Why did this stop as well?
Since 1716 Britain was transporting its convicts to America, though they stopped because, America refused to accept their convicts (America was beginning to be overcrowded)
Why was there such pressure for Britain to find a new location to transport convicts after 1783?
There was such pressure on Britain to find a new location because they too became overcrowded & also housed in rat-infested anchor ships called Hulks.
What was so appealing about Norfolk Island for the British?
Norfolk Island had a good supply of both tall pines and flax. It was also fairly close to Botany Bay
