Massacre & Disease
1. Why was land such a source of conflict in the decades following the arrival of Europeans?
The Europeans saw the Aboriginals as a problem to seize the land as their own, the land was needed by the Europeans to conduct research etc. - Andy, where did you get the idea that the Europeans were conducting research?
2. Explain why smallpox was such a devastating disease for Indigenous people. Consider how it might have affected them both physically and emotionally.
Smallpox was devastating to the Aboriginals because they have not grown immune to it, and it became deadly and passed onto many. Aboriginals must have thought that the Europeans brought a curse upon them or something superficial along those lines. Andy - please replace 'Aboriginal' with 'Aborigine', and make sure you know what 'superficial' means.
